In case you ever find yourself with a few extra mangoes, here's my quick and dirty version of this mango mousse recipe:
Spoon into individual serving glasses and chill until set.
What you'll need
2 large mangoes
1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice
200 mL heavy whipping cream
(The fancy recipe calls for gelatin and pure icing sugar. But this is India, and we are not fancy here. There was no gelatin or pure icing sugar at the store today/ever.)

What you'll do
Peel and chop the mangoes.
Blend mangoes with lemon/lime juice and cream until it starts to form peaks and whip.
(Fancy recipe says blend separately then whip the cream and fold the two together. I say there's no way you're getting me to wash the blender twice.)

Hahah! I love this: "There was no gelatin or pure icing sugar at the store today/ever". And I am with you, definitely not washing the blender twice. Looks delicious and refreshing!
ReplyDeleteMango is my favorite fruit. This looks like a perfect treat!!! We don't get many good mangoes in the United States. I know people from India who say the mangoes there are so much tastier! ~Val
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like Mango in India. But. it's raining now in Mumbai and so mango season is over.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures. It made me seriously crave mango milkshake.
And I know India seems a little village-like to the rest of the world but we do have gelatin and icing sugar. I think you got the wrong store ;)
I had a freshly made mango margarita once, and it was outstanding.. can't wait to try this!

ReplyDeleteThis looks delish! I just remembered yesterday that I had 2 mangos in the fridge and I had to eat them up quick - I ended up just eating them plain, but this would have been an awesome alternative.
ReplyDeleteMy mom and sister love mangoes, and buy them by the boxes at the Vietnamese supermarkets here in California. We're starting to run out of ways to incorporate them into our meals (salad, spring rolls, with rice ...) but I haven't thought about it as a mousse yet.
ReplyDeleteSo here's to a possible experiment this weekend! :) Cheers Kimia!
