City Hall plus a Yellow Dress

It's no secret I'm a pretty big fan of SF City Hall weddings. :)

So when I saw Kelly and Peter's pictures, I was instantly in love.

And how perfect is her yellow dress?

I love how sweet, simple, and chic their big day was. Congratulations to the beautiful couple, and many thanks for sharing your pictures!

Advanced Style

Don't you love street-style photos? Blogs like The Sartorialist in New York and Garance Dore in Paris feature real people in their chic daily wear.

But the only catch is, most people they choose to feature are really young. So I was thrilled to find Advanced Style, a street-style blog featuring all oldies via Joanna. I love it! Aren't they so beautiful and full of life?

Here's a sneak peek of Kenny in 40 years:

Oooo, I made a pie.

Strawberry-rhubarb will always hold a special place in my heart. :)

I got one slice--and to even out the Marionberry incident of last week, Ken attacked the pastry and ate the rest.

*Update: I made a second rhubarb pie. I think it turned out prettier than the first. :) Also, the recipe I used was great so I wanted to share it....

Ingredients
  • 3 cups rhubarb stalks cut into 1/2 inch pieces (Trim outside stringy layer of large rhubarb stalks; make sure to trim away any and discard of the leaves which are poisonous; trim ends.)
  • 1 cup strawberries, stemmed and sliced
  • 1 cup sugar (I only used 1/2 a cup)
  • 3 Tablespoons of quick cooking tapioca
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of grated orange peel
  • Unbaked pastry for two-crust 9 inch pie
  • I added cinnamon and nutmeg the second time around and highly recommend it

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Mix the rhubarb and the strawberries with the sugar, tapioca, salt, and orange rind. Let sit for 10 minutes.

2.  Turn into a pastry lined pan. Top with the pastry, trim the edge, and crimp the top and bottom edges together. Cut slits in the top for the steam to escape.

3. Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes, reduce heat to 350°F, and bake an additional 30-40 minutes longer. Cool on a rack.
Serve warm or cold. If you do cool to room temperature, the juices will have more time to thicken.

Have a Breezy Weekend

Well time just seems to fly around here! No complaints on my end though, weekends are always welcome. :)

Tomorrow I'm headed around town with a darling friend of mine visiting from Brooklyn. She is an artist extraordinaire and jewelry designer, so I'll be taking her to a few boutiques I think might like to feature her line (they'd be crazy not to, her stuff is gorge).

Any recommendations from fellow Bay Area shoppers?

Also, if you're wondering about that amazing balloon canopy--it was created by Gustafson Porter  for the Venice Architectural Biennale in 2008. How totally magical would it be to get married underneath?!

Jamie Oliver goodies

Have you guys seen these impossibly adorable food products by Jamie Oliver? As if I wasn't sufficiently in love with him and his mission to make all of humanity healthy--but now he's gone off and created "magic meltdown" spoons for hot chocolate and "fig & orange cinnamon" biscuits.
Jamie you make my mini-fridge so happy.

Wedding Fever

Ken and I are heading to a wedding in 2 weeks, and I can hardly wait.  It will be our first wedding together as married people--not including our own, of course. :)

In honor of the upcoming nuptials, and wedding season in general, I'd love to share a wedding-themed "favorites" list with you today. I hope you like it! Here goes...

I love paper streamers and candles for ceremony decorations.

 I love hand-typed invitations

I love poolside receptions with the inevitable possibility of throwing the groom in for a swim. :)

I love Polaroid cameras and witty signs encouraging guests to take pictures of themselves.

I love homemade wedding cakes with simple flower decorations and lots of frosting.

I love sassy banners referencing European history and French royalty.

I love oversized balloons, anytime, anywhere--but especially at weddings.

I love when brides wear their hair down.

I love photobooths with plenty of props.

I love buttons as party favors with the bride's and groom's faces.

I love painted wedding portraits.

I love flat wedding rings that don't catch on your clothing or make it hard to wear gloves in the winter.

I love bouquets wrapped with twine.

I love chalkboards with sweet messages as center pieces.

I love creative place cards.

I love light as air wedding dresses.

I love Canadian bed and breakfast honeymoons.

When it comes to weddings, what do you love? I'm so curious. :)

Documenting the Life of 20-Somethings

Many thanks to Fin for sending me this NYTimes article.

"What does it feel like to live through your 20s in the 2010s? To illustrate Robin Marantz Henig’s article on ‘‘emerging adulthood,’’ The New York Times Magazine asked 13 young photographers to capture the identity of their generation using iPhones."

For the most part, looks like we turned out okay--but just barely. :)

See the rest of the photos here.
