The Cool, Grey City of Love

Here are some ink drawings I've recently done of my favorite views in our beautiful city: Nob Hill, Fisherman's Wharf, and Fulton Street.

All these paintings are available for sale and will be in my upcoming show at the Arterra Building in April!

Keep Calm

I realize this poster has been blogged and reblogged about over the past year, but I just love Maira Kalman's version so much I couldn't resist posting it.

Futoshi Miyagi

Futoshi Miyagi is one of my favorite photographers. Japanese born, his work deals with issues of relationship psychology, intimacy, and isolation. Last year I had the opportunity to work with him on his project, entitled "You Were There in Front of Me."

This series of photographs questions notions of human interaction. Futoshi requested on his website that people email him and set up Skype dates so that he could photograph them in their environments. These photographs were a few of the ones he took of me in my Haifa apartment.

"I was here in my bedroom with my SLR, in front of
my laptop, and they were in front of me too, there, just divided
by a thin computer screen, in their bedrooms, or wherever they
were at the arranged time. Some of them were on the other side
of the earth.
We met each other, talked to each other, and made pictures.

What remain here are the photographs, some clear, some pixelated."

Rice Krispie Treat Cake

The cake tasting phase of wedding planning is by far the yummiest. From bavarian cream, to red velvet, the caterers we are courting are pulling out all the stops to impress us. Rice Krispie Treat flavor, however, is one we have yet to try.

Uta Barth

Has an image ever made your heart stop? Given you an...art attack...perhaps? Well I recently had my heart stopped, rewired, and pace-makerized after an encounter with the photography of Uta Barth. Berlin born, this woman has revolutionized my vision. That's when you know you've got it as an artist--when you affect the way people see.

Sure you may be thinking, wait a minute, her photographs are blurry? Or, what's with all the empty space? And to that I would say, she's talking about the sublime here people, about the poetic, the ephemeral and the fleeting. She is capturing the beauty that surrounds us daily and that dissolves before our eyes without anyone ever taking notice. But she notices...which could be why she won the Guggenheim Fellowship, ahem.

Uta, I've heard you live in LA. If that's in fact true, I just wanted you to know I live in San Francisco and would love to meet you. I may or may not be your biggest fan. Thank you for finding so much beauty in the ordinary--and for the temporary stop in my heartbeat.

Our parents were a.w.e.s.o.m.e.

Just came across the quirky and glorious site entitled, My Parents Were Awesome. It is a blog dedicated to featuring old pics of our rents. Dads with a handlebar mustaches and mom's with pigtails and mini skirts...priceless.
